POWERtalk Clubs have been active in Australia since 1961 and have a proud history of helping people grow in confidence and skills in speaking and leadership.
POWERtalk Australia is an incorporated not-for-profit association with all administrative duties being carried out by association volunteers. This keeps membership fees extremely affordable and allows people of all walks of life to access quality training and mentoring.
Members have the option of working through a structured development program and are given supportive evaluation on the assignments they present. Whether they come because they are afraid to speak, or because they love to speak, POWERtalk members all agree that the meetings are fun and packed with value.
This is an adult training association where members take responsibility for managing their own self-paced learning. The Programmer is also a member, and works towards giving all club members equal opportunities for growth at their individual pace.
Members are encouraged to use the self-assessment sections of the Members Manual to monitor their progress. Mentors are available at every level of the association and are a highly recommended part of the process of growth.
You can achieve everything you want when you have quality training and mentoring at your fingertips.

Great question. Most people who come to POWERtalk and join were looking for fun, informal, participatory learning, packed with supportive feedback. Sometimes, they have already tried other associations and didn’t find what they were looking for.
We recognise there are lots of other options and that people are unique and all learn differently…so if you want to learn, you need to find the association that works best for you. Come along and try out a meeting for free to see for yourself if we are a fit for you. No pressure, no fuss.

Meetings are themed and pre-programmed. Usually there are some minor assignments such as an opening or closing thought - a short, inspiring quote, reading, or similar; a couple of speeches of different styles; an education session (short or long); an impromptu session, that guests are welcome to join, but not pressed to speak if they don’t want to; evaluative feedback sessions; and there is sometimes a business meeting.
Most clubs also have a break for a cuppa partway through the meeting that allows for social engagement and relationship building.

As a not-for-profit Association, run and administered by volunteers, the cost is kept extremely low. As some clubs have to pay for room hire, fees can vary, but usually they range between $45 to $100 per term. Our terms go from 1 August to 31 July, with fees reducing on a monthly basis.
To confirm the exact amount, ask your local club for their fee structure when you visit – they’ll be happy to assist you.

Members are entitled to attend any club meeting in any part of Australia and the cyber-meeting, where they can join in with the group.
There are also higher-level meetings – a Club Connect full-day meeting is held in Qld thrice per term, and an Association Conference is held annually.
In addition, webinar trainings are held every second month, and members have access to a training manual and a member’s section of the website, packed with extra training materials. The Development Program is a structured pathway for growth, only available to those who have joined the Association.
Members also receive mentoring from other members, and are encouraged to attend regularly, join speech contests, and take on leadership opportunities. The more you participate, the more you learn – and you’ll be surprised to discover it is so much more than just public speaking.

A cyber-meeting is one that is conducted online. Usually, we use Zoom for our cyber-meetings. The meetings are pre-programmed similarly to an in-person club meeting and are a powerful way to improve your ability to participate in online meetings, for work or personal reasons.
