Picture this: You’re standing in front of a small group of your peers and bosses. Heart pounding, mind racing, dry mouth, knees weak…all the tell-tale signs of the fear of speaking in public. At the end, you breathe a sigh of relief that that’s over, but you know the presentation could be so much better and less stressful.
That was me for many years until I plucked up the courage to attend a POWERtalk meeting that was advertised in the local newspaper (a long time ago).
After that first meeting where I was in awe of those powerful speakers, I knew then that I’d made a brave and wise decision. The POWERtalk members led by example demonstrating how to present yourself to an audience and how to deliver your message with confidence.
My journey from a timid, introverted person to being comfortable to present in public didn’t happen overnight! This transformation took time. I attended meetings regularly and followed a carefully developed program. Most importantly, the POWERtalk members provided the coaching and sensitive evaluations so that I gradually became a confident and effective speaker.
Forty years later, I remain a part of POWERtalk Australia as the organisation still provides a wealth of expertise from experienced presenters, and many opportunities to present in a safe environment. While the POWERtalk meetings continue to help me to practise and hone my communication skills, I marvel at the transformations I’ve seen in the lives of hundreds of newcomers who’ve sought help to overcome their fear of public speaking.
Come along to a POWERtalk meeting and transform your life for the better.
