Studies show that the fear of speaking in public is rated one of the highest stress factors for most people. How does one conquer this fear?
The answer is by facing it – yes, actually standing up and doing it!
At POWERtalk you get to do this at your own pace. We have members who are keen to speak right away, and members who take longer before giving their first speech.
Meetings are programmed in advance, you are given plenty of notice before being required to do an assignment and the programmer will take your level of confidence and experience into consideration when allocating assignments.
Most meetings include an impromptu speaking session. You are encouraged to participate, and guests are welcome to pass.
Members are encouraged to become involved in POWERtalk at all levels, giving them the opportunity to develop and reinforce organisational, leadership, and management skills through hands-on participation.

In addition to open speech contests, the Cosmopolitan Speech Contest provides an opportunity for speakers who have been schooled in languages other than English to compete at a higher level.
Writing competitions are held yearly and are also hotly contested. The theme of the competition varies and can include: fiction, non-fiction, blogs and articles, and poetry
POWERtalk members are often called upon to judge speech competitions throughout their local communities.

Mentoring is a powerful strategy for personal growth for both the mentor and the mentee and has significant benefits to the organisation as a whole.

Evaluative feedback is an important part of our organisation and takes place at all meetings.
Evaluation is carried out in a supportive and nurturing manner and will usually contain both commendations and recommendations. The evaluator will take into consideration the level of the one being evaluated when performing the evaluation.
Most meetings include a general evaluation session at the end of the meeting at which the entire evening is evaluated including the running of the business session, providing continued training and education.
One cannot underestimate the importance of effective evaluation in the field of training.
POWERtalk members have the option of working through a structured multi-level development program.
The development journey allows for personal growth through systematic training, encourages a high standard of performance, encourages self-evaluation, and provides detailed feedback to members on their individual growth.
After joining POWERtalk, I have become a more confident speaker and am able to articulate my ideas and arguments at work more clearly. The growth I have achieved is all thanks to the supportive members of POWERtalk.
POWERtalk helped me to gain my confidence and change my mind set. It made easy for me to stand up and talk.
POWERtalk gave me the confidence to go for one of my major goals - to get on a stage and try to make people laugh!
POWERtalk made a huge difference to me - I don’t blush, shake, or stammer when I speak now!
I have gained so much confidence over the last couple of years, not only can I stand and speak in front of a group I can do that without being nervous, that was unheard of a few years ago.
I have been a member of POWERtalk for sometime and I am now concentrating on improving my presentation skills, club board member skills and I am one of our local club Presidents. All skills can be used outside this organisation. POWERtalk has changed my life when it comes to speak up in public.
